Purple brings to mind violet sweets, fortune-tellers’ crystal balls, plums, lilacs and blueberries. Although generally regarded as a cool colour, it is in fact the result of a blend between a warm and a cool colour: depending on the proportions, it can be deep or luminous, soft or electric, warm or almost icy. This week, we’re bringing you a selection of artworks in which purple is depicted in all its shades – it’s up to you to see what it inspires in you. Roses are red, violets are blue…
