Mood of the week: Art Brut
Exhibition from 12 October to 18 October 2026
Who hasn't been captivated by Facteur Cheval's Palais Idéal or Jean Dubuffet's Jardin d'Hiver? Created on the fringes of cultural norms and academic circles, these works fall within what Dubuffet termed "Art Brut": unique creations born of approaches unbound by artistic conventions, often produced by self-taught artists, marginalised individuals or those distant from cultural institutions. This freedom of expression and perspective continues to inspire many artists, whether in painting, sculpture or embroidery. Spontaneous forms and essential gestures — sometimes seemingly naïve — that challenge our relationship with the world and renew the way we see things.
