Women dancing freely in the wilderness, urban jungles full of positive messages: these are the two main inspirations of Silvia Calmejane, an outstanding artist, who fascinated us from the moment we met eight years ago. Today, we brush a portrait of this joyful painter, in an interview that outlines Silvia's journey, from her former advertising career to the international success she experiences today.

Silvia describes herself as a great observer, everything around her is important in her creative process. Since childhood, she has been painting faces and wondering what a face can hide behind the mask. The artist does not really have an established process - a piece of poster, depending on its shape and colour, can trigger the dynamic. She has abandoned canvas in favour of wood, which corresponds better to her and on which collage and colour emerge more instinctively. Plexiglass allowed her to use mirror writing and to paint with her left hand, with a more liberated stroke. She also likes to mix tools: paint, greasy pastels, felts, paper. When she creates, it is in the urgency to reproduce as best as possible the image she has in mind, before it escapes.

Through her work she wishes to spread messages of tolerance and peace: "On my own humble level, I would like to convey the vision of a free world, in which people are united, at peace with each other and with the planet. Reveal the beauty of nature that nourishes us on all levels. To awaken our individual responsibility to participate in a collective consciousness. Share positive messages to simply spread good."
