Contemporary art invades the net

On the cyber gallery belonging to Yann and Cathy Bombard, hit the mouse with more than a hundred artists: emerging ones like the young Edouart Buzon and his work over wood or more established ones like Patricia Erbelding. The presentation of the pieces- drawings, etchings, collages, photography or sculptures- always goes with advice to help you in your purchase. You can even find your treasure for…£25! For the ones who can’t choose, the “selection” section presents the pieces chosen either by an art collector, a brand new client or a photo-reporter. Cherry on the cake: you can have your portrait taken in a very casual way by the photographer Vincent Goutal.

Artwork to seize

The website and the first gallery created by Yann and Cathy Bombard have been so successful that they now have another gallery and project to open a third one, still in Paris. Drawings, etchings, paintings, pictures and sculptures are presented in an ambiance very close from the one of a studio itself. Their goal is to “demystify” the act of buying some art and make it more accessible to the “in the know” or not clients… That’s why they’ve gathered a very broad pool of more than a hundred artists with a high quality and fair price concept in mind..

An other Envie d’art gallery

After the success of the first gallery located in the 8th arrondissement in Paris, Cathy and Yann Bombard open their second one. Here, no amateurism: the artwork, an impulse choice by the owners, is not sold by format. Collector itself, the couple selects emerging artists, as the young Edouard Buzon and his mixed techniques on wood, or more established ones, like the painter Patricia Erbelding. Over the one hundred and thirty artists that the Bombards work with, six exhibit on the ground floor over two months. The basement looks more like a studio where the work awaits to be seen. You just have to browse and find your treasure. For those who want to have their picture taken, Cathy and Yann propose three options: the photographer Vincent Goutal who is coming to your place for half a day, or Phil Handsley and Dominique Fury. The little plus of the gallery is the “Family Tea Party”, on Saturday afternoons, where an animator initiates the children to art during the exhibition..

The democratic art

Passion or trend? Whatever… Buying a piece of art is now possible, thanks to a new generation of art galleries who have made art accessible to a broader market, collectors or not. We especially liked this one for its selection of artists (130 in total) and its choice of quality pieces at the fair price, from 25 pounds. The drawings, etchings, paintings, collages, pictures or sculptures are presented like in a studio, allowing a direct but sensitive contact. This gallery also proposes bespoke commissions with portraits on canvas, serigraphies, or original pictures on plexiglass, done at your place, cosy. The collectors Yann and Cathy Bombard who have created the concept already think about new openings, in Paris but also outside the capital and abroad. To be continued… .

The new galleries

“ You buy art the same way you redecorate your flat”, explains Patrick Eisencheter, 39 years old, a dedicated customer to the Enviedart gallery in the 8th arrondissement in Paris. This gallery allowed him to follow with wishes. At Enviedart where you can find pictures and sculptures, everything started at the peak of the “.com” era. It was in 2000, explains Yann Bombard, graduated from Centrale Shool, and who has created the concept. He was a collector him-self, and his wife, Cathy, whose parents were collectors themselves, is graduated from L’Ecole du Louvre. “The website Enviedart, created way before the galleries- a second one has opened in the meantime- has been particularly designed to seduce the first time buyer. And flatter his ego as well with personalised pieces… At Enviedart, you may find, who knows, the next big thing..

Affordable contemporary art

"There are millions of visitors at every museum exhibition, but hardly 200 000 art buyers in France", explains Yann Bommbard, founder of Enviedart, a gallery showing an equal care for accessibility and simplicity. There you will find paintings, photographs, ceramics and a few sculptures but no video or installation, so dear to trendy galleries, but considered too snob here. Once again with affordable prices.
"The price is not always the first criterion. The world of auctioneers and gallerists isn't very welcoming. At Enviedart, you are well received and this till 7 pm on Saturdays. Some of our clients have an esthetic approach, others will be looking for the right frame with the right color and format to hang above the sofa. We receive them just as nicely", says Yann Bombard. It seems like this new approach has been working quite well, Enviedart sells around 50 creations a month and has just expanded, daring to settle down in the eigth arrondissement of Paris, the very territory of Parisian Gallerists.

Le Journal du Dimanche, 28th of March 2004

Neo Galerie

Cathy and Yann Bombard are two art merchants. The first comes from a family of collectors and has a diploma of the Ecole du Louvre. The latter, with a diploma of the Ecole Centrale, is passionately fond of contemporary art. The couple naturally got to present their favorite creations in their gallery Enviedart, opened in 2000, and which now moves to a new hall in the eigth arrondissement of Paris. The idea: a minimal but lively place dedicated to confirmed or little known artists from all horizons and countries, and accessible to all. Paintings, sculptures, photos or jewellery (from 500 to 5000 euros) are exhibited here on two floors without theatricality, and are renewed every two months. From the round and full of tenderness sculptures of Sophie Favre to Brankica Zilovic's embroidered frames and Lilly B. Pop Art photocompositions, you can let your eyes wander without constraint on more than five hundred pieces. Plus, the creations are sold at studio prices and can even be tried at home before you buy them. That is enough to begin a process that would not come to mind that naturally: serenely purchase a creation without setting your banker against you..

Those new gallerists who wear themselves out
Yann Bombard's observation is simple. "There are in France only 250,000 art buyers whereas 4 or 5 million people visit art galleries or museums". How can this gap be reduced? Enviedart's founder recommends to "train the eye" of a very broad public. In order to do so, it is necessary to show accessible creations that can be appreciated instantly, and that don't require any specific knowledge.

The Enviedart gallery is opened daily, even on weekends (because you can be an art buyer and work all week long...). No monographic exhibition, you can see everything all the time, being guided by a professional. The web site then takes over from the gallery and puts the buyers and the artists together. Many find a creation on the web site, chat with the artist and go to the gallery to buy it. Our price policy also was designed to give birth to new collector vocations. The average price of the available creations ranges from 1,000 to 1,300 euros ($1,300 to $1,700). Half of the gallery clients buy art for the first time, then come back and refine their eye and their knowledge. In two years, Yann Bombard and his associate, Nicolas Portalier, have seen the tastes of their clients evolve towards more and more complex creations. To take contemporary art out of its elitist ghetto.

Contemporary art

Nicolas Portalier and Yann Bombard, cofounders of Enviedart.com, launched in July 2000, have created a true little museum on the Web of more than 3,500 pieces, that you can visit at home. Conscious of the visitors' reluctance to give their credit card number, a year later, the two partners have opened an actual art gallery. Apart from the fact that the frames there are scattered around. There isn't, however, the least carelessness in this precisely set up disorder. The casual presentation is aimed at "desanctifying art creation" and at seducing the uninitiated persons, bothered by majestuous and museum-like settings.
Both former consultants, Yann and Nicolas don't burden themselves with clichés, and reason in facts and figures. Definitely inspired by the success and the method of the Italian company Arte - direct marketing applied to art - now quoted on the Stock Exchange, they assert they "sell a painting just like any other product. There is no tabboo! We just use modern commercial techniques in a sector that hasn't changed for a century". Result: about fifty sales every month, but only 20% on the Internet.

Five artists exposed just like in their studio
From the 13th of September to the 24th of October 2004, the gallery presents the work of five artists: Jean-Pierre Chardat, Ludmilla Baczynsky, Sébastien Désarbres, Phil Handsley and Edouard Chauvin. The gallery has specialized in the young contemporary creation. You will notice especially Ludmilla Baczynsky's spatial installations where her taste for chemistry and science shows through.

Enviedart Gallery
Enviedart was founded in Paris, by Yann Bombard and Nicolas Portalier at the beginning of the yerar 2000. The Enviedart team gathers people form various origins who are tied up together by their passion for contemporary art and their will to share it with as many people as possible.
You can find the work of Anne Papalia exposed all year long (300m2 of exhibition, 200 creations displayed), as well as on the card and the web site of Dada 1920.

Contemporary art holds a place of honor

Enviedart? No problem. This large gallery, clear and cheerful, exposes artists "without stylistic apriorism" at affordable prices (from $100). Same inspiration for the setting up that represents the different creators and allows you to discover freely several creations of every artist.
In this place dedicated to contemporary creation, you will find plasticians along with painters, photographers, sculptors and jewel designers (the last who got there). In total: a hundred and fifty artists, young or confirmed, almost three hundred and fifty creations, and an exhibition renewed every two weeks.
In one word, the ideal place to start with being a collector. Before you get there, wander around those two web sites: www.enviedart.com, www.precieuse.fr.

Le Journal du Dimanche - Femina Hebdo, 17th of March 2002

Modern talents

Founded by Yann Bombard and Nicolas Portalier to make the access to contemporary art easier, Enviedart gallery presents creations of about 150 artists, painters, sculptors, photographers, and jewel creators in a cheerful ambiance and applying "studio" prices: from $100 to $8,000. Besides, a website allows new collectors interested in an artist to consult comfortably at home a biography and his or her work, and even to order a creation!

Paris sur la Terre, March 2002

Need art? Enviedart!

Along with an increasingly dense artistic activity (opening of the Palais de Tokyo, the Plateau, new alernative places, etc...), the French capital witnesses the arrival of art galleries of a new kind. In this sense, a few steps away from the very upmarket galleries of the Faubourg Saint Honoré and of the avenue Matignon, two young graduates from the Ecole Centrale have opened a space of promotion and sale of contemporary artists' creations.

Motivated by their will to open up the little and very closed world of art galleries, Yann Bombard and Nicolas Portalier have created Enviedart. The concept is very simple: more than 150 artists, mainly young but also emerging and confirmed, have been selected (Agnès Baillon for instance). 350 paintings, photographs, sculptures and even jewels are presented permanently in a very pleasant hall of 300 m2, and at studio prices: between $100 and $8,000.

Every two weeks, the hall setting changes, a complete, informative and performant website allows the clients interested in an artist to consult serenely at home a biography, other creations, various informations, and even to order directly from the artist. Enviedart targets clients among the new collectors, who try to purchase original and quality creations with limited resources.

PARIS Capitale, February 2002

Art on the net

The artists there find an environment that allows them to meet a broader audiance. It is the first diffusion of their work. The web surfer can search by name, combine several criteria (technique, size, color), and discover the Enviedart selections. Click on "the event of the month" to watch the last exhibition, "focus" to discover an artist especially brought to light. The "dialogues" and "meetings" are a tribune for art professionals. A performant and user-friendly new concept of art democratization.
